I void warranties on virtual machines.
Hi, I’m Jason.
I’m a tooling engineer who’s spent decades solving manufacturing problems, but somewhere along the way I fell down the Linux rabbit hole and never really crawled out.
Gentoo, arch and Linux from Scratch are where I spent years figuring things out. Not because I had to, but I was drawn to the fact that this rabbit hole goes deep and once you see how things work, you cannot unsee them.
One side quest led to another until I realized I wasn’t just learning commands anymore—I was learning how the system actually worked.
These days you’ll usually find me rebuilding servers, documenting my homelab, breaking virtual machines on purpose, and figuring out why something failed instead of simply accepting that it did.
I usually try to put out fires, but have been known to start my own… Kernel panic? VM won’t boot? Locked out of SSH on a remote machine?
Yeah, I’ve been there.
About This Site
lostpackets.dev is where I document that journey—from networking and Linux administration to self-hosting, security, automation, and the occasional motorcycle trip that somehow turns into another lesson about planning and troubleshooting.
I actually think the manufacturing background is a strength, not something to hide. The thread running through both careers is the same:
“I like understanding how complex systems work, and I enjoy making them reliable.”
That applies equally well to CNC tooling and Linux infrastructure.
If something on this site works, it’s probably because I broke it at least twice before I documented it.
